N.C. Cooperative Extension helps create prosperity for NC through programs and partnerships focused on agriculture and food, health and nutrition and 4-H youth development. N.C. Cooperative Extension connects farmers, agribusinesses, and communities with vital research-based information and technology. Extension offers a wealth of educational programs that address public health issues, improve economic well-being, and help people make healthier, better-informed decisions. N.C. Cooperative Extension conducts 4-H programs, the largest youth development organization in NC, where youth learn by doing.

N.C. Cooperative Extension has offices in every county of North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee. Since the passage of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, land-grant universities have worked toward a common mission to extend knowledge to the public. NC State University and N.C. A&T University ensure that research discoveries are delivered from the campus to the community.

Each year N.C. Cooperative Extension, Franklin County center celebrates Farm City Week to build relationships between urban and rural partners. Since 1955, the National Farm City Week Council has supported educational programming such as banquets, tours or field days to build interdependence between rural and urban citizens. This year the Franklin County Farm City Celebration was held at Vollmer Farm with the focus on Agritourism in NC and Franklin County. In 2016, our state saw nearly 10 million day-trippers with many interested in rural and agricultural activities. Franklin County and this region are hoping to attract those day-trippers to our area with the agricultural venues and opportunities we have.

During this holiday season take time to think about and show appreciation for the farmers, ranchers, processors, truck drivers, retailers, and others who work so hard to supply you with food and fiber. This Fall, many communities across the nation will be celebrating Farm City Events. The President of the United States has annually proclaimed the week leading to and including Thanksgiving Day as National Farm City Week.
