The North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Moore County Center will hold Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer training at the Agricultural Center in Carthage, on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Thursday, August 22 and ending Thursday, November 7, 2019. Some classes will be held at the Rufus McLaughlin American Legion Post 177, 1650 W New York Ave, Southern Pines, and there will be field trips to local sites. The 40 hours of classes cover practical aspects of gardening and landscaping. We emphasize sustainable and organic methods of gardening. Those who take the class are expected to donate 20 hours of volunteer service in youth gardening programs or client “helpline” duty, and an additional 20 hours in other N.C. Cooperative Extension horticulture programs. There is a $100 fee for training materials for those accepted into the program. A few scholarships will be available. An interview prior to acceptance is required. Space is limited:  Not all applicants will be accepted into the program. Please call 910-947-3188 for an application and to schedule an interview.
