If so, please share information about the NCECA Scholarship. Each year, the North Carolina Extension & Community Association (NCECA) offers ten district scholarships of $800 each and Rutherford County ECA offers one scholarship in the amount of $500. All applicants must be North Carolina residents and planning to attend a North Carolina accredited college, university, community college, or technical institute in the fall of 2023.

Both youth and adults may apply. Youth who are currently in their senior year of high school or currently in college without a break in formal education are eligible. Adults who completed high school, had a break in formal education, and wish to return to school are also eligible.

Applicants must submit a completed North Carolina Extension & Community Association, Inc. Scholarship Form by February 1, 2023.  Forms may be picked up at Rutherford County Cooperative Extension located at 193 Callahan Koon Road in Spindale or by calling 287-6010 to request a form by mail. Forms are also available from high school guidance counselors or online NCECA Scholarship 2023.

The purpose of the NCECA scholarship is to assist students in obtaining a college education in any field of study, with preference given to a degree in family and consumer sciences. Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is an applied field of study that brings together knowledge from many disciplines for the betterment of all aspects of family life. Family and Consumer Sciences professionals help people develop the essential knowledge and skills to lead better lives, be work and career ready, build strong families, and make meaningful contributions to our communities.

Career opportunities in FCS are broad and varied including human development, personal and family finance, housing and interior design, textiles and apparel, food science, culinary arts, nutrition and wellness. Family and Consumer Sciences professionals can be found in a variety of settings such as school systems, health and human services, consumer protection, businesses, industry, and Extension programs.

Family and Consumer Sciences has been part of the national Extension system for over 100 years bringing non-formal education to adults and youth throughout the United States. This national program is supported by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and the land-grant universities in each state. In North Carolina, Extension is the largest outreach program of our two land-grant universities, NC State University and NC A&T State University, serving all 100 counties in North Carolina. You can learn more at NC State Extension or Agricultural & Human Sciences.
