More In My Basket (MIMB) is a program developed at North Carolina State University/Cooperative Extension that helps reduce hunger by connecting North Carolina residents to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP is a federal food assistance program (formerly called Food Stamps), and in North Carolina, the program is called Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).

Program Components:

EDUCATION

MIMB staff and Extension Agents provide education about FNS through presentations to community groups and also share information at large-scale events, such as resource fairs. During programs, participants learn about FNS eligibility criteria, allowable food purchases, how to use an EBT card, myths, and ways to apply.

View this calendar to learn about upcoming events in your area.

To host an information session call Janice Roberts (910) 947-3188.

OUTREACH

Partnerships are cultivated with local community groups to extend outreach efforts across North Carolina.

Contact us if you would like to partner to reduce hunger and connect more people to FNS.

FNS APPLICATION ASSISTANCE

MIMB staff provides assistance to individuals and households who are interested in applying for FNS. Staff answer questions and conduct screenings to help individuals determine eligibility for FNS. If a person is likely-eligible, they can receive assistance with completing and submitting the FNS application.

Assistance, which is available in English and Spanish, is provided on-site at various community events in North Carolina and through a toll-free line.

The toll-free line is available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
