Moore County's agents work as an interdisciplinary team on the "Big Three" program areas of Porfitable Agriculture, Healthy Families and Leadership Development.
Our Agriculture agents continue to advise farmers on best production practices for crops and livestock through one-on-one contacts, workshops, newsletters and on farm demonstrations. The greenhouse and nursery sector ranks second in agricultural income in Moore County. A special emphasis on helping youth start agricultural enterprises will insure that farming remains a part of the Moore County Landscape.
The basic unit of society is the family. Extension's programs help families develop and implement plans to eat healthier, increase physical activities and strengthen parent-child relationships. Families today eat out more than in years past. Extension trains food service personnel in safe food handling techniques through the ServSafe program to prevent food-borne illnesses. Our agents also help families apply budgeting principles and work with families on estate planning.
4-H helps young people develop leadership skills and self-confidence. Summer programs and camp enrich the lives of the youth in Moore County.
