The Knowing Moore Campaign Has No Secrets

Knowing Moore

Extension agents are often asked who they work for or what they do.  When we try to explain that we work for North Carolina Extension, we're often met with glazed expressions of non-comprehension. Both colleagues and advocates complain that NC Extension is the state’s “best-kept secret.” However, Extension has no secrets to keep and once more, Extension has played an essential role in our state’s prosperity and in the lives of millions of North Carolinians for over a century by serving the needs of individual counties and families. North Carolina Cooperative Extension, located in county centers in all 100 counties and in the Qualla Boundary of the Eastern Band of Cherokees, is an educational partnership between North Carolina State and North Carolina A&T Universities and local county governments. Local Extension agents backed by more than 1,100 experts and university research utilize resources to deliver practical solutions for local issues that help citizens and communities increase economic prosperity, improve environmental stewardship, and improve quality of life.

In Moore County, our programs focus on sustainable and profitable agriculture, community economic development, healthy, accessible, and safe nutrition, experiential positive youth development, and the management of viable home gardens and landscapes. Being accessible to Moore County families and individuals is the primary principle of our mission. Yet, to meet this expectation, our presence should be known by the public who we serve.

Knowing Moore is a social media campaign, the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Moore County Center staff has embarked on it throughout the coming year. Each week, a local fact, activity, or opportunity will be posted on our Facebook and Instagram sites.  The weekly posts are designed to inform and promote our programs and resources available to Moore County residents and to overcome the belief that N.C. Cooperative Extension, Moore County Center, is a well-kept secret. Because, quite frankly, we can’t keep secrets.
